Together we can elevate avian care!

Providing life-changing care and environment for special needs avian species in Minnesota.

Our History

Since  the founding of MAARS in July 1999, almost 1500 unwanted  parrots have  come through our doors. More than 1400 birds have been successfully placed into permanent homes. We’ve consistently grown since then, all thanks to the helping hands of this amazing community!

Our Mission

MAARS’ core function is to care for our flock at our facility, The Landing. Our primary mission is to educate the public, people who already live with parrots, and the veterinary community about the issues that face captive parrots.

Another reason why p

Another reason why parrots, who are wild animals, are not good pets:
the recurring costs of owning a parrot. Long lived parrots will generally be much more expensive to vet, house, and look after than domesticated cats and dogs. You’ll need a suitably sized cage, carrier, toys, perches, and stands along with healthy fresh foods and pellets. They typically have much longer lifespans, making the costs add up even more over time. Keeping a parrot is not a cheap endeavor, and these birds require a great deal of special attention and care. This is Sputnik testing out fresh food for the flock.
